This is the story of an athlete who has crossed his limits, his age limits overcoming injuries and accidents. This is the story of Oldman: The Last Triathlete.
Manuel Cruces Panoramix, aged 72, has been a dermatologist for more than 30 years, Chief of the Dermatology Service of the CHOP (Pontevedra Hospital Complex), but in his free time…
He was a swimmer, a cyclist, an Olympic trap shooter, a roller hockey player of Deportivo de La Coruña, first lifeguard of Galicia. After turning 40, all of the above led him to practice triathlon, a sport that, at the end of the 1980s, not many people knew, even fewer of them understood, and barely no one seemed to practice in Spain.
Now in 2016 he is still active and competing with exactly the same enthusiasm of the first day. Every competition is a challenge and every year, a new adventure; proving that age is just a state of mind and where there’s a will, there’s a way. Not even a broken hip caused by an accident stopped him from competing when no one gave a dime for his chances to recovery.
This documentary deals with vocations arriving late in life. Immersed in another way of living, it analyzes the daily challenges of an extraordinary athlete who tries to reach the “finishing line of the starting point”, as he usually says.
This extraordinary athlete is the main character of “Oldman: The Last Triathlete”, a throwback to remember the history of this sport in Galicia through his own milestones, partners and experiences.
The best triathlon athlete, Javier Gómez Noya, as well as other benchmark triathlon athletes such as Iván Raña, Saleta Castro and David Castro are also part of this documentary.
