Familia Plómez is a cultural association created by former students of a typeface design course organized by unostiposduros (www.unostiposduros.com). The association devote their efforts to promote everything about letterpress printing, calligraphy and lettering.
We recently held workshops in calligraphy with Oriol Miró and typesetting with lead type; and we plan further workshops on lettering and wood type posters. We intend to organize all kinds of courses, workshops and conferences that deal with the letter, always combining practical and theoretical knowledge.
We have a small letterpress printer with two machines, Aunt Minerva and Uncle Korrex, and a cabinet with widely used lead type. We have this small letterpress because we love the smell of ink, it serves to support the courses, and it helps to pay the rent.
We believe that this type of printing is still a great communication tool and we plan to develop our activities in the future.
Crowdfunding in Verkami
At a time when lead letters are sold for scrap and end up as bullets and the furniture is discarded or used to display minerals, we need a minimum of 4,000 € to avoid this fate from happening to a letterpress printshop run by two little old ladies. They have an amazing collection of type that without us will finish in the ravisheap.
With your help we will have recovered an old letterpress printshop from extinction, have more typefaces to work with and more means to impart our courses. This letterpress material, far from being exposed in a museum will be used daily (as Gutenberg did). If you donate generously we can guarantee you a better night sleep, a wider smile next morning and our love and gratitude and countless priceless gifts!
You have emptied your pockets. What now?
We hope to have everything ready and delivered by September 2012.
All our printed rewards (greeting cards, posters, bookmarks, t-shirts, etc.) will be printed in our letterpress with lead or wood type. Including the t-shirts.
Greeting cards and bookmarks will be printed on 350gr cotton paper, and posters in 130gr paper.
Do not fail to go through our verkami blog, since we will be updating regularly. We will post details on the printing process for those who are curious about it. Sometimes we can get too technical, so if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
