Oricalco (orichalcum) is a Flamenco, Flamenco-Jazz musical group formed by Jesús Zájara (flute and alto sax), Jorge Canda (flamenco guitar) and Iván Mellén (percussion) that takes its name from the legendary metal related to the myth of Atlantis and which, according to Plato narration in his Critias dialogue, was extracted from large betas that, like subterranean veins, crossed the entire island. Faced with the myth, the really existing historical orichalcum would turn out to be a complex alloy of different metals (copper, iron, gold, lead, zinc ...) as a result of human craftsmanship.
Taking the name of this legendary but real alloy, which had a compendium of virtues superior to that of its separate parts ("it has the shine of gold and the hardness of bronze"), we intend to confront the dark and confusing idea of purity, so idealized in certain musical fields, and thus claim the idea of "musical alloy" as the true engine of music.
With Aleaciones, the musical group Oricalco presents its first album; a record project in which each of the nine compositions that make it up aims to reclaim the spirit that gives the name both to the group and to the album itself: mixture. Moving away from any idea of purity, we present each piece as a musical alloy, resulting from the different sound worlds that have forged the style of each of the members of the group, finding in Flamenco, jazz and Classical, the molds on which than pour each mixture.
In addition to the members that conform up the trio, the album has had the collaboration of artists such as Víctor "Vic" Guadiana, Enrique Rodríguez "Enriquito" or Marco Niemietz.
A recording project that has kept present, above all and continuing in the metaphor that gives the album its name, the idea of craftsmanship when it is made, personally taking care of each of its details.
