#ReviuElRaval. Campaign for the reopening of Theater Raval of Gandia

Digital impact on conventional ways of approaching to culture may force us to reconsider them, although it shouldn´t be a reason to manage without them in any case. Cultural equipment still play nowadays a basic role: they provide an infrastructure to develop the different artistic expressions and practices. They also carry out a social interaction function, due to human habit of using common places for their encounters.

Telematic technology is moving the hunting of experiences –that used to be outside the home- to the indoors´ comfort. We cocoon ourselves at home to do cultural things that traditionally took place in public spaces like theatres or cinemas. This is the era of the self-interest and so we abandon cinemas and theatres, in whose bars and lobbies we used to chat and interact.

Nevertheless, in this time of consumption focused in ring road´s devices there´s a place nearby Gandia, in the Raval borough, where to find public and collective benefit and enjoyment.

A year ago we sorrowfully got to know that, after almost 20 years of artistic performance, the Teatro del Raval of Gandia closed their doors due to economic problems. The last cultural taxes rise in Spain to a 21% has complicated even more the situation of the cultural sector, that goes through one of its worst times. Now after a year, cultural project Lacasacalba (www.lacasacalba.org) resolves to reopen the theatre with the aim of offering again an exciting cultural proposal for the town.

GOALS AND USE OF CONTRIBUTIONS

#ReviuElRaval is the active campaign to revive the Teatre del Raval, re-awake it and make it reborn into the collective memory. Our aim is to launch it as a versatile and multipurpose cultural centre, dedicated in the first place to exhibitions but also opened to many other cultural activities. We want to plan dramatic plays and films, embrace training activities (including two permanent workshops: Drama for kids and Modern music) and offer space renting for artists, entitys and associations. At the same time, we will keep developing our work as a theatre for schoolchildren.

For this reason we request your priceless help! The specific purpose of #ReviuelRaval is double:

a) Set up the entrance and the first floor of the building, where the workshops will take place.

b) Provide the function room with the necessary technical supplies

Digital impact on the cultural financial ways forces us to reconsider them, so let´s do it. There have always been private patrons and nowadays it looks like small networks are going to rule. Let´s restore them while we try to do our best!

**Friday 18th & Saturday 19th July: information stand in the tenth Pop al Carrer (Tavernes de la Valldigna Beach), a festival with the performances of Pau Riba i els Gripaus, Enric Casasses & Don Simon and Telefunken, Ovidi Twins and Dwomo with Orquesta Pinha..

At the same time, during the summer we will finally fit out the theatre building in Sant Ramón Street to reopen its doors in October**.
